Dr. MAUREEN S. SMITH

Founder of M S Mediation Center, Dr. Maureen Smith, is a mom of 5 adult children, and she is a proud grandmother of 7 beautiful grandchildren. Ms. Smith enjoys traveling, playing tennis and almost anything outdoors. When she's not at M S Smith Mediation Center of North Carolina, you would most likely find her in the mountains with her, "talking" dog, "Casey '' or riding her e-bike on a trail. When she’s not traveling, she’s spending quality time with her grandchildren or cheering at a Duke University Football Game. Her passion is teaching people in distress inner peace strategies through faith and mindfulness with Peace Fellowship Ministries.

Dr. Smith is a certified mediator with the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission. 


Dr. Smith recognizes that every client’s needs are unique, and with thoughtful advice and strong advocacy, she strives to protect her clients’ interests outside of the courtroom. M S Smith Mediation Center of North Carolina offers a full range of mediation services, including separation and divorce, child custody and visitation, general family mediation, and real estate and business negotiation, all built on the backbone of her reputation for professionalism, compassion, and effective representation.


Before finding M S Smith Mediation Center of North Carolina, Dr. Smith spent years working with world-wide organizations representing families and businesses. Dr. Smith’s commitment to approaching each case with integrity and diligence positions Maureen Smith Mediation Services to handle even the most complex family matters from start to finish. Dr. Smith has mediated or negotiated over 700 international and domestic cases

FAMILY

Dr. Smith is a strong advocate for mediation and is frequently called upon as a mediator in general family matters. Her primary focus is on the family circuit such as separation/divorce, child custody and visitation, and private family disputes (household matters) -she understands that life happens and when it does, you look for someone to help you to work through the hard decisions prior to/instead of going to court.

REAL ESTATE 


Dr. Smith also has a strong acumen for real estate. She has worked in real estate and managed a real estate brokerage firm for more than 14 years. Dr. Smith understands the complexities of real estate matters and can help you to negotiate the conflicts in critical and timely real estate transactions.


EDUCATIONAL

Dr. Smith is passionate about education. She is a life-long learner and believes that every child has the right to obtain academic success. Dr. Smith works to build relationships with leadership at educational institutions ranging from elementary to high schools. She stands as a neutral third-party facilitating the communication between students, parents, and staff ensuring that each party is heard, and progressive learning strategies are created for the students' academic success.


BUSINESS 

Dr. Smith works together with small businesses to manage untimely disputes between managers and employees, dissatisfied clients, and business negotiations. She has worked as an Adjunct Instructor for Duke University (Non-Profit Management Certification) Guilford Technical Community College Small Business Center (Entrepreneurship, Small Business Development) and has been invited as a business lecturer from organizations in the United States and across borders. Ms. Smith has worked diligently with the Oversees American Red Cross, the United States Army and the United States Air Force focusing on emergency disaster contingency plans.  


EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Maureen S. Smith attended Guilford College where she received her B.A., (Religious Studies), University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she received her M.A. (Liberal Arts, and a Post-bac certificate (Peace and Conflict Studies), Regent University School of Law, (Master of Law-Alternative Dispute Resolution), Dr. Smith also attended Christ Theological Seminary where she received her Doctor of Biblical Studies.
